Letter to the Editor | Don't make switch to city manager

I attended two public meetings regarding the change in city government in Danville.

At one, the supporters of the change stated no one in Danville is qualified for the position.

At the second meeting, they stated the opposite.

They say a city manager will make the hard decisions financially and won't be politically motivated.

How is that possible when the city council can fire at will?

Statistics show cities run by a manager are only 10 percent more efficient. That will not cover the increased cost of the manager's salary.

Maybe all we need to do is elect alderpersons who listen to their people.

We need aldermen who will quit wasting money on pocket parks, roundabouts, river walks and raises. They need to run the city like we financially run our families.

I say vote no on changing the form of city government as all it will do is cost us more money, eliminate our voice and close the good old boy circle even tighter.
