Letter to the Editor | Letter illustrates big problem today

I write in response to Dan Miner's letter about the "smear campaign" by university professors (law professors in particular) against the most recent Supreme Court nominee (published in the N-G on Oct. 8).

Miner's letter perfectly illustrates one of the biggest problems we have in this country right now. He makes assumptions about a large group of people when he likely does not personally know even a small percentage of individuals in that group.

And then he goes on to condemn everyone in that group because of his assumption that their beliefs are different from his own beliefs in many areas.

Having lived with a law professor for nearly 40 years, I can say with certainty that Miner's blanket assumptions and accusations about professors are inaccurate and unfair.

Let's all take a breath and stop pointing fingers at people we don't even know. Even better, let's show some respect for everyone's beliefs, even if we don't agree with them.
