Letter to the Editor | It's hard to show respect for Trump

William R. Mitchell lamented in a letter to the editor in The News-Gazette the lack of respect for President Donald Trump and the presidency by liberals.

Mitchell should reacquaint himself with the saying "whatever a man sows, this he will also reap."

For decades, Trump has cheated financially (bank loans defaulted, contractors bilked); lied (more than 9,000 during his presidency, according to a Washington Post story); been a serial philanderer; and belittled anyone who disagrees with him (read almost anything from the Twitter feed ofDo we need to spend more on our military than the next 15 countries combined do on theirs? This is not a flattering portrayal of our national priorities.

The "loyal opposition," regardless of the party in power, deserves a good-faith effort by the president to work on behalf of all the American people, recognizing that we are a democratic republic of diverse people and opinions ruled by consensus and not dictatorial fiat.
