CHAMPAIGN — A Wisconsin man was taken to an Urbana hospital following a crash Tuesday at the Interstate 74/Interstate 57 interchange in Champaign.
According to a state police report, Steven S. Lloyd, 47, who listed an address in Oxford, Wis., had been driving a semitrailer east on I-74 and was on the ramp heading to I-57 south at 7:01 p.m. Tuesday at a speed faster than the posted 30 mph limit when the vehicle's left front steering tire went off the ramp and onto the gravel shoulder.
The driver tried to compensate by steering the vehicle to the right, and it overturned onto I-57 at the bottom of the ramp, sliding to rest in the center median.
Lloyd was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, where he was listed in fair condition Tuesday night.
Police ticketed Lloyd for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
