CHAMPAIGN — Fire department officials are investigating the possibility that a lighted cigarette lighter may have caused a fire on Champaign's north side on Thursday night.
One woman was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.
According to a fire department report, firefighters were called to a one and a half story wood frame home divided into three units at 1103C N. Market St. at 7:13 p.m.
When firefighters arrived, they found heavy smoke coming from the west side of the building, with the fire confined to one apartment on the first floor.
A woman who had been inside the apartment escaped and was sitting on the back porch when firefighters arrived. While she was treated for smoke inhalation, no other injuries were reported.
Firefighters had the fire under control by 7:18 p.m.
Total damage to the building was estimated at $3,000.
