Teams of the Week
Eagles (19-18) trailed 2-0 after one inning and 5-2 going into the seventh against a Mahomet-Seymour team they had traded regular season wins against. Jada Walker, Kalista Lutes, Sarah Hunt and Grace Bjornbak scored in the late-game comeback that produced a Class 3A regional title.
Warriors (23-13) made the plays when they counted, overcoming a 4-1 deficit after five innings and coming back from 6-5 down in the bottom of the eighth to edge Schlarman 7-6 in a 10-inning Class 1A sectional title game. Further proof? The Hilltoppers stranded 17 runners, 10 in scoring position.
ST. JOSEPH-OGDEN SOFTBALL
Spartans (40-0) continued their dream season, getting extra-base hits from Abby Immke (two), Stephanie Canfield, Mickaela Fleming and Samantha Fleming in a 16-3 rout of Seneca in a Class 2A sectional title game. Elizabeth Everingham became the first area pitcher to win 30 games in a season.
CENTENNIAL GIRLS' SOCCER
Chargers (13-9-3) avenged an early-season loss to Mahomet-Seymour by topping the Bulldogs in the sectional semifinals to secure a spot among the state's final 16 Class 2A teams. Katelynn Martinez had two goals in the semifinals as well as in a title-game loss to Normal U-High.
