PESOTUM — A Tuscola woman whose clothing caught on fire following a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 57 north of Pesotum late Thursday afternoon was treated at an area hospital and released.
According to a state police report, Julie F. McCrory, 56, who listed an address in Tuscola, was driving a car south in the left lane of I-57 about a mile and a half north of Pesotum at 3:48 p.m. Thursday when the car hit a patch of water on the highway.
The car spun around out of control and traveled off the highway to the left. McCrory's car then hit the median wires and caught fire.
McCrory climbed out through the passenger-side front window. Since her clothes were on fire, she dropped down and rolled around in the median to put them out.
The police report said McCrory received burns to her back side. She was taken by ambulance to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, where she was treated and released.
Police ticketed McCrory for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
