UPDATED 2:45 P.M.
URBANA — A second man has been charged in connection with a Tuesday shooting in east Urbana.
Ardis Fenn, 23, who listed an address in the 700 block of East Main Street, Urbana, was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm for allegedly shooting Curtis Mosley, 28, of Urbana.
Mosley was in the parking lot of a business in the 700 block of East Main about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday when he was approached by Fenn, who allegedly demanded items from him while threatening him with a rifle.
Urbana police Sgt. Dan Morgan said Mosley got up to run away and was shot in the thigh. Fenn got in a car driven by Gabe Chaney, 18, of Champaign and fled the scene.
Police quickly identified the men and asked media to publish their photos.
Chaney turned himself in at the Champaign police station Tuesday night. Fenn was picked up in the 300 block of South Second Street in Champaign about 4:15 p.m. Wednesday after a tip to police.
Lt. Bryant Seraphin said police recovered the rifle believed used in the shooting at the home of Fenn’s girlfriend. It was in the trunk of a car in the garage of the home on East Park Street in Urbana. Mosley was treated and released for his injury on Tuesday.
Fenn was charged with aggravated battery with a firearm. Because he is alleged to have fired the rifle, if convicted he faces between 21 and 45 years in prison.
Assistant State's Attorney Scott Bennett told Judge Richard Klaus that Fenn admitted to police he was at the scene but said someone who looked like him did the shooting.
Klaus set bond for Fenn, who has prior convictions for possession of a controlled substance and obstructing justice, at $250,000. He ordered him to have no contact with Mosley or the business where Mosley was shot.
He's due back in court Aug. 7.
