A local lawmaker has been selected to be on the committee that will hear the case against a State Representative facing a federal bribery charge.
Republican State Representative Chapin Rose of Mahomet will be a part of the House Select Committee on Discipline. The group will hear evidence against Representative Derrick Smith of Chicago, who allegedly accepted a $7,000 cash bribe to write an official letter of support for a daycare center.
Rose says his role on the discipline committee is similar to being on jury.

Rose says if Smith is disciplined by the committee, it could include expulsion, censure or reprimand. Then he says a two-thirds majority vote in the full House is needed to approve any disciplinary action by the group.
Rose says the committee should have its first meeting sometime in the next two weeks.
Rose has been in a somewhat similar position before. He presented evidence in front of the full Senate against former Governor Rod Blagojevich in his impeachment trial.
