CHAMPAIGN — City council members this week are expected to choose a new representative to fill the vacant District 3 seat.
Kyle Harrison is officially out — he announced his resignation last month and its effective date was Friday. Council members have spent the past few weeks accepting applications for the appointment and hearing from the candidates.
Now they are scheduled to make their decision when they meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Champaign City Building, 102 N. Neil St.
Four people are vying for the appointment: retired high school teacher Lynn Anderson, home-construction company owner Barbara Kenny-Langendorf, former council member Vic McIntosh and Merry-Ann's Diner owner Tony Pomonis.
The city council vote on the appointment is the first item listed on its agenda for Tuesday. As soon as a majority of council members agreeon one of the candidates, the plan is to swear that person in to office on the spot. The meeting would then continue with the new District 3 representative.
