CHAMPAIGN — Midland States Bank will build a new branch office at 1615 W. Springfield Ave., C — the site of the recently razed This Is It Furniture building.
Becky Von Holten, the bank's Champaign market president, said she is "excited and thrilled" with the new location, which will give Midland States a full-service facility with drive-up lanes and ATM service.
The Effingham-based bank has an office at 1608 Broadmoor Drive, C, as well as a mortgage services office at 2009 Fox Drive, C.
But the Broadmoor Drive office — once the home of Strategic Capital Bank — was designed as more of a private banking office, without drive-up lanes and other features conventionally associated with bank branches.
Von Holten said plans call for construction on the West Springfield Avenue facility to be complete by the end of this year.
Details of the design are expected to be released soon, and Von Holten called the look "very modern," in some ways reflecting the look of the bank's new headquarters in Effingham.
Von Holten praised the West Springfield location as one with "great traffic count" and a lot of redevelopment going on nearby.
The new facility will help emphasize the full range of services Midland States offers, including wealth management, retail banking and mortgage lending, she said.
Von Holten said the bank has no immediate plans for developing other locations in the Champaign-Urbana area. She said Midland States will be methodical about expanding, taking at look at transaction counts.
Midland States Bank, which had $1.48 billion in total assets as of March 31, has 29 locations in Illinois and one in Chesterfield, Mo.
It acquired the assets of Strategic Capital Bank in May 2009 and bought 12 branch offices of AMCORE Bank in north central Illinois in March 2010.
This Is It Furniture — which once occupied the bank's new site — relocated to a larger space in Champaign's Country Fair Shopping Center in 2009.
