The National Weather Service has extended the Heat Advisory issued for East Central Illinois. It's now in effect from noon Thursday to 7 p.m. Friday. Counties under the advisory include Champaign, Vermilion, Ford, Iroquois, Douglas, Edgar, Coles, Shelby, Moultrie, Piatt, Macon and DeWitt.
The weather service says temperatures could reach 110 degrees in the mid to late afternoon hours on Thursday, and the warm and humid conditions will also continue overnight. You should take the necessary precautions to beat the heat, including wearing lightweight and loose fitting clothing and drinking plenty of water. You should also check on pets and the elderly frequently.
In addition, the National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for Champaign, Vermilion, Douglas, Edgar and Coles counties, in effect from noon to 7 p.m. Thursday. A Red Flag Warning means dry conditions will elevate the risk for fires to spread rapidly. You should refrain from any outdoor burning in these areas on Thursday.
Similarly, a no burn order has been issued for the city of Danville, in effect until further notice.
