TILTON — A 39-year-old Springfield man was hospitalized Tuesday after crashing his motorcycle on an Interstate 74 entrance ramp in Tilton.
Christopher M. Adams was taken to Provena United Samaritans Medical Center in Danville following the crash, which occurred at 12:40 p.m. on the I-74 eastbound entrance ramp from Illinois 1.
Around 3:45 p.m., the hospital was getting ready to transfer him to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, a spokeswoman said. His condition was unknown.
According to an Illinois State Police report, Adams, who was riding a 2008 Harley Davidson XL1200, was traveling on the entrance ramp when the bike lost traction and skidded onto the right-hand shoulder. The motorcycle went into a ditch and fell over but continued to slide.
Adams told police his rear tire was bald and that he lost control while attempting to slow down on the ramp. The report said he was not wearing a helmet.
Adams was ticketed for use of an unsafe tire.
