CHAMPAIGN — One man was arrested and a second man ticketed following an incident involving a gun Thursday afternoon in Champaign.
According to a Champaign police report, a 28-year-old woman reported that a man who was sitting in the front passenger seat of a silver car pointed a gun at her in the area of Williamsburg Drive and Thornton Drive at about 1:50 p.m. Thursday. The car then drove away.
Champaign police then found a car matching the description provided by the woman in the 600 block of West Beardsley Avenue.
As police approached the car, the 20-year-old driver, later identified as Kendrick Rogers of Urbana, left the vehicle and ran off. Police found Rogers in the 600 block of West Bradley Avenue and arrested him.
Police spokeswoman Rene Dunn said police also detained three other men who had been passengers in the car. During a search of the car, police found a handgun under the driver’s seat.
Police arrested Daveyonta Fairman, 17, of Champaign for unlawful use of weapons and took him to the Champaign County Jail.
Police ticketed Rogers for driving without a license and then released Rogers and the other two passengers, who were not identified by police.
