I asked my sister, Allison, to tell me about how she decided to try wrapping hot dogs in crescent rolls and baking them for a corn-dog-esque treat.
"Well, it's a long story. You have time? One day, I ran out of hot dog buns," she told me.
Turns out, Crescent Dogs already existed (Pillsbury says so, only its recipe includes cheese ), but my sister's luck in reinventing them brought them to my attention.
I've yet to make them for myself, but at her house, they're delicious and obviously really easy. She said her husband reports they're particularly great for late-night snacking, now that he doesn't have that extra step of getting out a hot dog bun. She said my dad calls them "big pigs in a blanket."
She was kind enough to break down the recipe for me:
1. Wrap up a hot dog in a crescent roll.
2. Bake according to crescent-roll directions.
