URBANA — A Champaign man has been criminally charged with selling heroin in Champaign County Circuit Court.
Champaign County sheriff's Sgt. Will Davis said Jayson Johnson, 38, who listed an address in the 300 block of South Rising Road, was arrested just before noon Wednesday as a result of an investigation that began several weeks ago.
Davis said a confidential source working with police purchased heroin from Johnson on three different occasions, leading to his arrest Wednesday.
At the time of his arrest, which occurred outside a business in the 300 block of East Stoughton Street, Champaign, police found about 3.7 grams of heroin on Johnson, Davis said.
He was charged Thursday with delivery of a controlled substance and unlawful possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance. The counts allege he had the heroin on July 10, 12, 13 and 18, Davis said.
Davis said street crimes investigators from the Champaign and Urbana police assisted in investigating Johnson.
A court-authorized search of his home Wednesday turned up scales and other materials used in packaging heroin, Davis said.
Johnson's bond was set Thursday at $250,000. He is due back in court for a probable cause hearing on July 31.
