When we started planning, I knew we'd need to figure out a color scheme. When I found a cute vintage purple and pink tablecloth at The I.D.E.A. Store a few nights ago, I snapped it up. I also bought a couple rolls of lemony-yellow streamers.
We went with a light lemon theme - lemonade in a glass beverage dispenser I bought last year for my sister's bridal shower, lemon drops in a cute little apothecary-style jar and beautiful lemon cupcakes Erin made and decorated with fondant flowers.
I bought pink, purple and yellow cups, plates and napkins to complete the color scheme.
I originally wanted to sew ruffled streamers with my I.D.E.A Store find, but then my sewing machine broke (it may be for good this time). I borrowed a nieghbor's, but then the streamers just tore where the needle went through them. I think you must have to make ruffled streamers with brand-new materials, and I just didn't have time go buy more.
Instead, I fringed them by gently folding (without creasing the streamers) several streamer layers together and carefully making tons of cuts. Be careful not to cut too deeply, because it will leave that length of streamer hanging by a thread. Er, a tiny piece of streamer. You know what I mean.
Anyhow, I think they ended up looking pretty cute, especially after Erin had the idea to twist them for more visual interest.
It was a great, lemony party, and I'm hoping to have a couple of recipes from the party for you in the near future.
