I wrote recently about open water swimming and some local women who are swimming races in lakes and rivers.
They swam the Central Illinois Open Water Swim on Saturday at Evergreen Lake in Comlara County Park in McLean County. They were gracious to let me tag along with them to the swim.
This is the third year for this swim. The course was rectangular, one loop for the 1.2-mile swim and two loops for the 2.4-mile swim. The water temperature was pretty warm, about 83 degrees, and the breeze made it a little choppy.
The fastest man and woman in the 1.2-mile swim were both from Urbana. Austin Zarbuck swam 30:51 and Jennifer Hill swam 31:02.
The women I wrote about all swam well. I was considerably slower, but I had fun and I was impressed with how well-organized the swim was.
Here are the results for the four of us:
Carol Hartman, 1:14 for the 2.4-mile swim.
Becky Dey, 1:24 for the 2.4-mile swim.
Margaret Ballantyne, 37:25 for the 1.2-mile swim.
Jodi Heckel, 48:30 for the 1.2-mile swim.
