CHAMPAIGN— A Champaign man is being held at the Champaign County Jail after sheriff's deputies found suspected drugs and two guns during a traffic stop.
Courtney Hamilton, 23, who listed an address in the 200 block of East Church Street, Champaign, pleaded innocent on Monday to unlawful possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance and unlawful use of a weapon.
Judge John Kennedy set Hamilton's bond at $100,000 and scheduled his next court appearance for Oct. 2.
According to a Champaign County sheriff's report, Hamilton was a front seat passenger in a vehicle pulled over by a deputy at Broadway Avenue and University Avenue in Urbana at 1:08 a.m. Monday for failing to stop behind a marked crosswalk.
After Hamilton agreed to be searched, deputies found 0.1245 ounce (3.53 grams) of suspected powdered cocaine in his left front pants pocket. He also had an unmarked bottle allegedly containing the prescription drug Xanax and a .22-caliber bullet in the same pocket.
Deputies found two plastic bags, one in each of Hamilton's shoes. The bags contained a total of 1.845 ounces (52.32 grams) of suspected powdered cocaine.
Deputies also found two guns under the passenger seat, according to the report. One was a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun. The other was a .22-caliber revolver.
Information on the driver of the vehicle was not available on Monday night.
