MONTICELLO — Monticello police say a man who was found dead on a building near the town square Thursday morning died of natural causes.
Police Chief Michael Galloway said in a release the man has been identified as Daniel P. Dighton, 53, of Monticello.
An autopsy done Thursday indicated he died of natural causes, the release said.
Police were called to the Piatt County Annex buiIding at the corner of Marion and State streets about 7:30 a.m. Thursday because there was a man seated on steps leaning against a doorway who was dead.
Police blocked streets in the area and called for help from Illinois State Police crime scene technicians to process the scene.
Mr. Dighton was pronounced dead at 7:50 a.m.
Police have not released any other information that would explain why Mr. Dighton might have been at the building.
