URBANA — A Champaign man has been charged with aggravated financial identity theft after he allegedly withdrew money from his grandmother's checking account without her permission.
Troy Blacker, 26, who listed an address in the 300 block of South Fair Street, Champaign, pleaded innocent on Monday to felony aggravated financial identity theft.
According to a police report, Blacker's 81-year-old grandmother gave Blacker the personal identification number for her checking account at Busey Bank in November 2011 because she had a difficult time using her debit card.
Police said that Blacker made a series of unauthorized withdrawals from his grandmother's checking account from Feb. 15 through March 7.
At least 10 of the withdrawals totaling $3,280 were captured on surveillance video at an ATM at the Mobil Super Pantry at 1601 W. Springfield Ave., C.
In addition, two unauthorized withdrawals totalling $400 were made from the grandmother's account at a Busey Bank ATM at 2011 W. Springfield Ave., C. According to police, surveillance video showed Blacker making the withdrawals.
Blacker's next court appearance was set for Oct. 24.
