CHAMPAIGN — A three-time defending regional champion, Centennial didn't get much notice in a preseason poll of Big 12 boys' soccer coaches.
The Chargers were picked seventh.
"I feel like we have something to prove," first-year coach Andy Peralta said.
Centennial is 2-0-1 after opening Big 12 play with an 11-0 throttling of Decatur MacArthur on Tuesday. Not bad for a bunch of rookies, Coach included.
"We are a brand-new team," Peralta said. "We lost eight or nine starters, so there's been a really big turnover."
One constant is goalie Andy Drackley, a 2010 All-Area pick who recorded his second shutout Tuesday. Jia-yu Yao scored twice, and Diamond Williams had four assists.
"We're happy how we've progressed," Peralta said. "We hope we can surprise some people."
