RANTOUL — She has been there for her family; now her family is there for her.
Monica Reynolds-Wollmer of Rantoul is undergoing treatment for vulvar cancer. She was diagnosed with the rare disease in July 2011.
A fundraiser, called the Monica's Angels Benefit, will be held later this month in Rantoul to defray expenses incurred from the treatments.
Wollmer has undergone radiation, surgery to remove cancer from her lymph nodes and now chemotherapy at Barnes Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, according to her daughter, Ashley McGee.
"While we are praying for a miracle, we hope that this latest treatment of chemo will improve her quality of life and give her more time with family and friends," McGee said.
The benefit is scheduled at 6 p.m. Sept. 29, at the Knights of Columbus, 1001 N. Ohio St., Rantoul.
The event will include a dinner and silent auction conducted by the Knights of Columbus. The benefit is being planned by friends Karen Shreves and Paula Hopkins and McGee.
Local businesses, family and friends are being asked to help cover the cost for the cancer treatments. Items are also needed for the silent auction. An account for donations has also been set up at Bank of Rantoul.
