Fall leaf collection in Urbana and Champaign will begin the week of Oct. 15, and in Danville on Oct. 1
Danville's program includes both leaf and brush collection, and probably will continue until about early December, said operations manager Bob Scott.
Collections will be made on the same day as weekly solid waste pickup, he said. Leaves must be in approved yard waste bags that are available for purchase at hardware and home improvement stores. Brush can be either in paper bags, in regular toters or bundled if it is tied with cotton twine or string, and if the individual branches are no larger than 3 inches in diameter and less than 4 feet long.
Urbana will collect leaves only during the following four-week period: Oct. 15-19, Oct. 29-Nov. 2, Nov. 12-16 and Nov. 26-30. Only leaves and non-woody plant material will be collected, and it must be placed in 30-gallon paper lawn and garbage bags. No brush or tree limbs will be collected.
Paper bags must be placed at the curb or along the roadway edge before 6 a.m. on regular U-Cycle collection days.
In Champaign, fall yard waste must be contained in 30-gallon paper yard waste bags.
Twigs and branches may be bundled with non-metallic twine, or placed in paper yard waste bags. Branches cannot be larger than 2 inches in diameter or 3 1/2 feet long. Bundles cannot be more than 18 inches in diameter.
Materials must be placed within 10 feet of the street by 6 a.m. on the day of scheduled pickup.
The city of Champaign is divided into 10 zones, with each zone getting four biweekly collection days from Oct. 15 through Dec. 7. A map of the collection zones will be posted on the city's website . Information also will be available on the public works hot line, 403-8852.
