DANVILLE — Vermilion County voters can learn a little more about the local candidates running in the Nov. 6 general election at a candidates' forum.
The forum will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Oct. 17 at the Bremer Conference Center theater at Danville Area Community College, 2000 E. Main St.
It is open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
Candidates in the following contested races plan to attend:
— Vermilion County Recorder of Deeds: Nikki Bogart, D-Danville, and Thomas O'Shaughnessy, R-Catlin.
— Illinois House, 104th District: Incumbent Chad Hays, R-Catlin, and Michael Langendorf, D-Urbana.
— Illinois Senate, 52nd District: Incumbent Mike Frerichs, D-Champaign, and John Bambenek, R-Champaign.
The candidates in the new 15th U.S. Congressional District, which includes all of Vermilion County, also have been invited. They are John Shimkus, R-Collinsville, currently a congressman in the 19th U.S. Congressional District, and Angela Michael, D-Highland.
Vermilion County Treasurer Sue Stine will serve as the moderator.
Audience members will have a chance to submit written questions to the candidates before and during the forum, and speak with them following the forum.
The forum is being sponsored by Altrusa, Business Women of Vermilion County, DACC Annuitants Association and the Executive Club. Marilyn Satterwhite is the event's chairwoman.
