URBANA — An Urbana man on parole for a previous burglary conviction has been criminally charged with burglary again.
Justin Kennedy, 21, who listed an address in the 600 block of Dodson Drive, was arrested Thursday at his workplace in Urbana,
Urbana police investigator Dave Smysor said his department received a report from the Illinois State Crime lab in late August that latent fingerprints lifted from a van about two months earlier matched Kennedy.
Smysor said that about 4:30 a.m. on July 6, a woman living in the 500 block of West Oregon Street awoke to the sound of the horn on her van. She looked out the window and saw a man running west from her driveway. The van had been left unlocked and nothing appeared to be taken although items were out of place, Smysor said.
Police lifted the latent fingerprints, which matched Kennedy. Smysor said it took police a while to find him since he had moved from a previous address.
Court records show that Kennedy was convicted of burglary in 2009 and received drug court probation twice, which was revoked both times. He was resentenced to boot camp in June 2010 and completed it.
