PESOTUM — Four teens were injured in a two-vehicle crash in northern Douglas County Friday night apparently caused by distracted driving.
Illinois State Police at Pesotum said the collision occurred at 9:48 p.m. at the intersection of County Road 1450 N, also known as the Hayes Road, and County Road 950 E, about 1 1/2 miles west of Interstate 57.
The report said Tyler E. Dupont, 21, of Decatur, was driving a pickup truck west on the Hayes Road when police said he became distracted, disobeyed a stop sign at the intersection, and crashed into the car that Kristen Rocke, 18, of Arcola, was driving on County Road 950 E.
She was taken to Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana by helicopter for her injuries and remained there Saturday in fair condition.
Two passengers in her car, Makayla Rocke, 18, and Monika Campos, 18, of Arcola, were treated and released.
All three were wearing seat belts and remained in the car, the report said.
The report said Dupont was not injured but his passenger was. A Carle nursing supervisor said Austin Crist, 19, of Decatur, was also treated and released. Both of them were also wearing seat belts and remained in the truck.
The report said Dupont was ticketed for disobeying a stop sign and operating an uninsured motor vehicle.
