DANVILLE — Danville Area Community College will host its first alumni homecoming celebration in more than 30 years later this month.
The celebration will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 27 at the college, 2000 E. Main St., Danville.
It is open to the public, and invitations have been sent to alumni — anyone who has taken a class for fun or credit at the college throughout its 66-year existence.
The event includes a bus campus tour, building tours and special presentations by division representatives. Bus transportation will be offered to all visitors, and people can join campus tours at any building.
DACC's culinary arts department will provide concessions in the Bremer Center. There will also be a Memory Lane video booth, alumni class meeting/registration areas and children's activities.
DACC's women's and men's basketball teams will host their annual alumni games beginning at 5:30 p.m.
As part of the homecoming activities, DACC is participating in the Illinois Community Colleges: A Million Reasons Why campaign to raise awareness about the role that community colleges play in higher education. Officials said the campaign refers to the nearly 1 million students who are educated at community colleges throughout the state each year; the millions of alumni; "as well as the millions of reasons why students, faculty, staff, administrators and community members choose their community college as the place to be educated, to work, to play, etc."
