URBANA — Appointments are now being taken for the Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program for households that have had their heating utility disconnected or with children under age 5.
The LIHEAP winter heating assistance program is operated by the Champaign County Regional Planning Commission through May 31, and it can help with payments toward home gas and electric bills.
The LIHEAP program began accepting applications in early September from low-income seniors and people with disabilities. The program will be open to all households meeting income eligibility requirements after Nov. 1.
Appointments can be made at the RPC office at the Brookens Center, 1776 E. Washington St., U, or by phone by calling 384-1226, according to the RPC.
The RPC requests people applying to bring proof of income for the past 30 days for all household members, Social Security cards for all household members, their most recent gas and electric bills and any disconnect notices they've received, public aid medical cards if they have them and proof of their disabilities if they are disabled.
