CHAMPAIGN — Two Parkland College groups will offer a free screening of the award-winning documentary "Darius Goes West: The Roll of His Life," from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Champaign Public Library.
Parkland's Club ACCESS and Association Diversity Committee showed the documentary last year on campus in observance of Disability Awareness Month, which is October. The documentary spotlights Darius Weems of Athens, Ga., a 15-year-old battling Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, the same disease that took his brother Mario's life at age 19.
Accompanied by a group of 11 young friends, Darius leaves home for the first time in his life, traveling to California in hopes of convincing MTV to customize his wheelchair on its hit show, "Pimp My Ride."
