KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Hazel Higgins, 68, of Kansas City, Mo., formerly of Champaign, died at 4:20 p.m. on Sept. 25, 2012, at Kindred North Hospital, Gladstone, Mo.
A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 20, at Blue Ridge Boulevard Christian Church, Independence, Mo. Her ashes will be spread in Mitchell, S.D., where she grew up and spent many sweet memories.
Hazel was born June 12, 1944, in Mitchell, S.D., a daughter of Arthur and Helen Klipsch, who preceded her in death. Also preceding her was one sister, Judy Chrisman.
Survivors include eight siblings; four sons, Jon (Mary) Owens of Thomasboro, Scott Deckman of Kansas City, Mo., Kevin Deckman of Tulsa, Okla., and Jimmy (Jennifer) Johnson of Independence, Mo.; five grandchildren, Jonathon (Paige) Owens, Dallas Knauer, Colton Owens, Joey Johnson and Jaima Johnson; and two great-grandchildren, Ada Rosignol and Rylee Rosignol.
Hazel enjoyed spending time with family and friends and collecting angel figurines. She always kept busy, whether it was chatting online or playing bingo at a local community building. She was also a very caring, giving person; always offering her help where she could, without asking for anything in return. She was also an avid animal lover.
Hazel absolutely loved life and loved bragging about her prized possessions: her children and grandchildren.
One of Hazel's proudest accomplishments was recently being smoke-free for over a year. She hoped to show others that even at the age of 68, it was never too late to quit.
Condolences may be mailed to P.O. Box 514, Thomasboro, IL 61878.
