GIBSON CITY — The school board recently held a special meeting to discuss collective-bargaining negotiations and consider two applicants to fill a board vacancy.
Following about one hour in closed session last week, board members unanimously appointed Josh Johnson of Gibson City to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Jill Doran.
The appointment will expire in April 2013 at which time Johnson may seek election.
Johnson, 35, has lived in Gibson City since 1998. He is director of patient access at Gibson Area Hospital and was formerly the owner of Friendly Flower Shop.
A two-term president of Gibson Area Chamber of Commerce, Johnson said he believes in Gibson City and its "extremely strong school district." Johnson said he has no specific plans or agenda for his term, but believes that "new blood and fresh ideas" are always welcomed.
Superintendent Anthony Galindo announced an open house for new high school principal, Christopher Garard, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. Monday at the high school commons.
