GIBSON CITY – Alice Nina Clifton, 81, of Gibson City, formerly of Champaign, passed away at 4:45 a.m. Tuesday (Oct. 9, 2012) at Gibson Area Hospital Annex.
Her funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, at Lamb Funeral Home in Gibson City with the Rev. Megan Thompson officiating. Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery in Urbana. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Friday.
Nina was born May 20, 1931, in Champaign, a daughter of Romine and Ethel (Peters) VanOstrand. She married Denzil Gaines in 1949. He preceded her in death. Nina then married James Clifton in October 1992. James passed away on Oct. 7, 2011.
Surviving are three children, Alice (Robert) Wille of Buckley, Dennis (Pat) Gaines of Missouri and Joyce Probus of Gibson City; a sister, Daisy (Donald) Landers of Bloomington; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by sons-in-law, Ron Probus and Kenneth Ecker; and one sister, Dorothy Chrisagus.
Nina lived in Champaign for many years before moving to Kingsville, Mo. She moved to Gibson City in October 2011 to live with her daughter, Joyce.
She was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary in Kingsville, Mo. Nina loved playing cards and teaching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren how to play, especially Rummy.
