URBANA — Honkytonk and Western swing band Swing'N'Country from deep southern Illinois will take the stage along with local fiddler Dennis Stroughmatt from 6 to 9 p.m. today (Sunday, Oct. 21) at The Iron Post, 120 S. Race St.
Stroughmatt, whose local groups include Creole Stomp and L'Esprit Creole, has played fiddle and sung with Swing'N'Country on several occasions, including backing Nashville legends like Leona Williams and performing at the International Steel Guitar Convention.
"Cord Fitch, the pedal steel player, thought it would be fun to go back to do a show with his group after he played with me and Rob Krumm in July 2011 for a CD release show at The Iron Post," Stroughmatt said. "So I wanted to try and make it happen. Champaign-Urbana is going to get a very special treat with these guys, and I'm glad they agreed to do it."
Besides Fitch, members of Swing'N'Country include Dow Smith, vocals and lead guitar; Bill Toler, vocals and bass; and Jeff Stoffel, drums.
Stroughmatt promised a mix of music ranging from Bob Wills, Ray Price, Asleep at the Wheel and Hank Williams to Duke Ellington and "maybe even Glenn Miller."
