URBANA — The Illini Union at the University of Illinois will soon begin its annual Thanksgiving basket drive.
A Thanksgiving basket includes a laundry basket filled with all of the items needed for a family to have a full Thanksgiving dinner.
The Office of Volunteer Programs is coordinating with several local community non-profit agencies to make sure that families in need receive a Thanksgiving meal. This is the sixth year the office has organized the drive, and this year volunteers hope to meet the growing need in the community with even more baskets.
Donations of Thanksgiving baskets will be accepted between Monday, Oct. 29 through Wednesday, Nov. 14 at the UI's Office of Volunteer Programs in the Union.
Donors can assemble the baskets individually or work in groups.
Team leaders are asked to contact the Office of Volunteer Programs at firstname.lastname@example.org or 333-7424 with information on how many baskets they would like to donate. From there, the office will send out all the information needed for participation, including a list of items to include in the basket.
Baskets can be dropped off at the office anytime during the drive dates. The final deadline is 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 14. The office is in room 288 of the Illini Union. More information also is available at http://union.illinois.edu/ovp .
The Illini Union Office of Volunteer Programs is a division of Student Affairs on the Urbana campus and promotes volunteering and student involvement in community service. It provides a clearinghouse for volunteer opportunities.
