CHAMPAIGN -- No one was hurt after a vacant Champaign home burned on Sunday night, but investigators are looking at the fire "as a possible crime scene."
Champaign fire Capt. Bob Quinlan said the cause remains under investigation. He estimated that about $40,000 worth of property was damaged in the fire. The home, a one-story, 1,400-square-foot structure at 1207 Garden Lane, itself is worth about $60,000.
Firefighters got the call at 8:17 p.m. on Sunday. Quinlan said that, when they arrived, the living room was "fully-involved," and flames were showing through two front windows. They had the fire out by 8:29 p.m.
No one is believed to have been in the home at the time of the fire. Its previous tenant was evicted about two weeks ago, Quinlan said.
