Today is your last chance to order tickets to next Monday's annual dinner meeting of the Half Century Club, one of the oldest continuously operating organizations in Champaign County.
An outgrowth of the Old Settlers Club, a group that included the pioneers of Champaign County, the Half Century Club -- originally called the Urbana Half Century Club -- will meet for the 89th time at 5:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 29, at 88 Broadway in Lincoln Square Village, Urbana.
This year's main speaker will be Bloomington lawyer Guy Fraker, a Lincoln expert whose topic will be, "Lincoln's Ladder to President and Why Urbana Was a Rung."
Fraker recently wrote a book on Lincoln's time in central Illinois as a circuit-riding attorney and judge, including stops in Urbana, Bloomington and other area towns.
The Half Century Club also will honor Kermit and Ann Harden as distinguished residents of the community. Entertainment will be provided by the University of Illinois singing group, The Girls Next Door.
Tickets are $25 per person. Call Norma Bean at 359-1360 to make reservations.
