CHAMPAIGN — The second round of candidate debates, featuring eight candidates for four countywide offices, will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Champaign City Building, 102 N. Neil St., C.
At 7 p.m., the candidates for county auditor, Democrat George Danos of Champaign and Republican John Farney of Urbana, will meet.
That session will be followed at 7:30 by the candidates for circuit court clerk: Republican Katie Blakeman of Champaign and Democrat Barbara Wysocki.
At 8 p.m. the contenders for county clerk, incumbent Republican Gordy Hulten of Champaign and Democrat Charlie Smyth, will meet.
The final forum will be at 8:30, featuring the candidates for county recorder, incumbent Republican Barb Frasca of Champaign and Democratic challenger D'Anne Winston, also of Champaign.
The debates are sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Champaign County, the NAACP and The News-Gazette.
Debate moderators will be from the League of Women Voters and the NAACP.
All of the debates are free and open to the public. Audience members can submit questions in writing at each of the forums.
The debates will be broadcast live on Champaign's cable television channel and also will be rebroadcast at various times on the channel between now and Election Day, Nov. 6. The cable channel already is rebroadcasting debates held last week among the candidates for the 52nd state Senate and the 103rd and 104th House districts. Those debates also were sponsored by The News-Gazette, the NAACP and the League of Women Voters.
