URBANA — An Urbana man is due back in court in December after being charged with the robbery of a Rantoul man.
Qwantrell Ayres, 22, who listed an address in the 400 block of South Dodson Drive, was arraigned Monday on the Class 2 felony charge alleging that on Sept. 20 he robbed a Rantoul man of an undisclosed amount of cash.
Champaign County sheriff's investigator Tony Shaw said the holdup happened in the 500 block of South Dodson Drive and involved a man who had come to Urbana to buy a car.
Shaw said deputies had obtained a warrant for Ayres' arrest on Oct. 17. When deputies tried to arrest him the next day at an address in east Urbana, he ran from them but was caught within about 20 minutes.
Shaw said the investigation into the holdup is continuing and there may be other arrests.
The Rantoul man who was robbed of his cash was hit on the head and upper body but was not injured badly enough to need medical treatment, Shaw said.
Ayres remained in the county jail Tuesday in lieu of $100,000 bond. His next court date was set for Dec. 18.
