CHAMPAIGN — An LED Art Exhibition featuring work by artist Emil Schult will take plce all day Thursday at the iHotel and Conference Center, 1900 S. First St., C.
The event, open to the public, is part of the LED 50th Anniversary Symposium. Schult, a German painter, poet and musician, is best known for his collaborations with the electronic music ensemble Kraftwerk beginning in the early 1970s. In addition to creating most of their album sleeve designs, he co-wrote the lyrics for several of the group's best-known songs.
These days he prefers to be known for his artwork which ranges from the totally abstract to realistic interpretations of a microchip, along with excursions into architecture, art deco, fashion, portraits and more. When not working on his own art, he mentorsg art students, many of them from the Kunstakademie, Germany's largest and most forward thinking art school, where he once studied.
Born in Dessau, Germany, Schult earned his high school diploma in Crystal Lake, Ill. At the University of Mnster, he studied Chinese language, philosophy and art history.
