With St. Joseph-Ogden and St. Thomas More leaving the Sangamon Valley Conference to join the revamped Okaw Valley Conference, the SVC needed a sixth football school.
SVC principals voted Wednesday to allow a football school from the Interstate Eight Conference to join the SVC: Dwight.
The SVC originally rejected Dwight’s application to join the conference — along with applications from Okaw schools Monticello and Unity — on Oct. 10.
The SVC principals voted unanimously at Wednesday’s meeting to extend an invitation to Dwight. Pending Dwight’s acceptance of the invitation, the Trojans will be a part of the SVC starting in 2014-15.
“This is a positive move for all SVC teams,” Paxton-Buckley-Loda athletic director John Overstreet said. “Dwight is geographically close, and it helps the smaller-enrollment schools. Overall, it is a great addition.”
