Illinois outside hitter Jocelynn Birks was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week in volleyball on Monday for the second time this season.
The redshirt freshman had a match-high 23 kills and hit .392 in a four-set victory against Indiana on Saturday. Birks also recorded a double-double (15 kills, 10 digs) against Purdue last Wednesday in a five-set Illini loss.
The LaGrange Lyons graduate averaged 4.2 kills and 1.7 digs per set while hitting .275 in the two matches.
Birks earlier earned the Big Ten’s weekly freshman honor on Sept 17, when she was named player of the week as well.
Illinois has received the freshman of the week award three times this season, with setter Alexis Viliunas selected on Oct. 15.
