CHAMPAIGN – Mary Margaret Blackburn, 92, of Virginia and Champaign died Monday, Oct. 1, 2012, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.
A memorial will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Carle Forum, 602 W. University Ave., Urbana.
She was born May 25, 1920, in Springfield to Dr. and Mrs. William R. Blackburn. Survivors include longtime friend, Jan Kiley of Champaign, and cousins.
Mary Margaret was a graduate of Virginia High School and MacMurray College. She taught for 38 years in Snicarte and Virginia, Ill., before retiring. Beginning in 1978 she was employed by Midwest Television Inc., and starting in 1999 by Research Survey Service Inc.
She was a member of Virginia Presbyterian Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, 8 & 40, PEO and Order of Eastern Star, where she served as worthy matron. Mary Margaret was a 35-year staff and board member of Illini Girls State, including several years as president. She served on the Cass County Welfare Board.
In Champaign-Urbana, Mary Margaret volunteered for United Way, Crisis Nursery, Family Service and the Parkland College nursing program, and was a mock juror for the University of Illinois College of Law.
Memorials include Carle Women's Legacy Circle at Carle Development Foundation, Virginia Presbyterian Church and MacMurray College, Jacksonville.
