HOOPESTON – Wendell C. Ferdinand, 83, of Hoopeston passed away on Nov. 6, 2012, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana with his family at arm's length and surrounded with much love as he went to heaven.
He was born Feb. 8, 1929, in Milford. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Vivian (Toney); four children, Larrie (Johanne) from San Antonio, Texas; Lyn of Mahomet, Jay of Hoopeston and Jo Ellen Doggett (Rocky)of Westville. He also has seven grandchildren; Nicky, Sara, Michael, Fernando, Crystal, Justin and Vanessa; and four great-grandchildren, Alexis, Maddox, Krista and Isaiah. Several nieces and two sisters-in-law also survive. Those who have gone before him were his parents, Pete and Lena Ferdinand from Milford; two
brothers, Elmer and Lawrence; and one sister, Gertrude Hofer. Wendell was a craftsman, building many pieces of furniture for friends and family, as he so enjoyed designing and creating and enjoyed playing golf. He studied electronics while working at Brown's Woodworks, which then led him to open his own TV repair and sales business in 1963 until he and his wife retired in October 1991. He was a loving father, husband and a great friend to many during his life, and will be missed by us all.
Funeral services will be at noon Friday at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church with Pastor James Batchelor officiating. Burial will be at Floral Hill Cemetery with military rites by the American Legion and VFW. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon Friday at the church. Memorials may be made to The American Cancer Society. Brown-Alkire Funeral Home in Hoopeston is assisting the family.
