URBANA — Two Champaign men were charged Thursday with weapons-related felony offenses after police found a gun in the car they were in Wednesday night.
Champaign police Lt. Robert Rea said an officer stopped a car in the 300 block of West White Street about 9 p.m. Wednesday for an alleged traffic violation.
The driver, Jammal Richardson, 26, of the 1100 block of Nofftz Drive, got out and ran, Rea said, but was caught shortly thereafter.
A search of the car turned up a handgun under the front passenger seat, where Duboris Harden, 18, of the 400 block of South Lynn Street, had been sitting. Harden remained in the car.
The state's attorney's office filed charges of possession of a firearm with a revoked firearm owner's identification card and driving under suspension against Richardson and possession of a weapon by a felon against Harden.
Both men were told to be back in court Dec. 11.
