CHAMPAIGN — Attention, health care professionals and anyone who has helped care for a family member with dementia: If you've got some time to spare, you could help others affected by Alzheimer's disease.
The Alzheimer's Association Greater Illinois Chapter is looking for volunteers to lead support groups and says professional experience with dementia care isn't necessary.
But health care providers and people who have helped care for a family member with Alzheimer's are preferred as group leaders.
New volunteers are trained and encouraged to hold group meetings in community-based and independent-living settings.
The organization asks anyone interested in volunteering to apply online at alz.org/illinois. Click on the "volunteer" tab and select support group facilitator on the application form.
