SADORUS – Gaylord Loren O'Bryan, 88, of rural Sadorus passed away at 3:48 a.m. Wednesday (Nov. 7, 2012) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.
He was born Sept. 18, 1924, in Parkville, the son of Hiram and Opal Hinds O'Bryan. Gaylord married Marian Joan Buxton on July 19, 1953, in Lovington. She survives.
Gaylord is survived by his daughter, Patricia O'Bryan (Terry Whitehead) of Peoria; sons, John (Janet) O'Bryan of Naperville, Eric (Renee) O'Bryan of Sadorus and Mark (Debra) of Winchester, Mass.; eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Tabatha, Travis, Justin, Adam, Drew, Declan and Keegan O'Bryan; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Vernon and Russell O'Bryan.
He was a veteran of World War II, joining the U.S. Navy and serving in the South Pacific Theater. After the war, Gaylord attended Wittenberg College (Ohio) and graduated with a B.S. degree in Business Administration. He returned to Illinois to farm with his father in Sadorus.
Gaylord lived in the Parkville area all of his life, and was blessed to have the opportunity to farm the land that was his family's and acquire more as years passed. He belonged to the Parkville United Methodist Church, was a charter member of the Sadorus Sportsman's Club and a lifetime member of Pesotum American Legion Post No. 580.
Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, Nov. 12, at Hilligoss Shrader Funeral Home, 705 S. Main St., Tuscola, with the Rev. Rob Adams officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will be in O'Bryan Cemetery, rural Sadorus, with military graveside rites accorded.
Memorials are suggested to the Parkville United Methodist Church.
