URBANA — Contractors working outside the Clark-Lindsey Village in south Urbana hit a gas line about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Urbana Fire Division Chief Russell Chism said.
Chism said the Clark-Lindsey staff immediately evacuated the area closest to the leak, which was on the west side of the complex in a parking lot near a loading dock.
Residents were not forced to leave the building, just move to a safe area, Chism said.
Firefighters honed in on the affected area and were waiting for gas company officials to come and shut off the 1-1/2-inch line.
