PARK RIDGE — Illinois outside hitter Jocelynn Birks was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week in volleyball for the third time this season on Monday.
The Willow Springs native averaged 5.2 kills and 2.7 digs per set and hit .246 in two matches last week.
Birks had 22 kills, eight digs and four blocks against Michigan State on Friday in a five-set Illini loss. One night later, she matched her career high for kills with 25 in a four-set victory against Michigan. Birks also recorded 16 digs against the Wolverines for her 12th double-double.
Birks has been honored four times in the Big Ten weekly awards, including once as Player of the Week.
