CHAMPAIGN – Eldon C. Dunn, 85, of Champaign died Tuesday evening (Nov. 20, 2012) at Asta Care Center, Colfax.
"Don" was born July 15, 1927, in Marion, Mich., the son of James and Minnie (Langworthy) Dunn. He married Dorothy Millis on Nov. 2, 1951, in Lansing, Mich. She preceded him in death on Jan. 7, 1990.
Don is survived by three daughters, Barbara (Salvador) Contreras of Jalisco, Mexico, Chris (Arnold) Salazar of Henderson, Colo., and Linda McEldowney of East Liverpool, Ohio, and foster daughter Karen Silver of Champaign; nine grandchildren, Andrea Baldwin, Melissa Welch, Cynthia Contreras, Amanda Contreras, Rebecca Contreras, Bradley Salazar, Stacie Mendoza, Joseph Salazar and Lucas McEldowney; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Kennedy; and by special friend, Helen Williams.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, six brothers and one sister.
Eldon graduated in 1944 from Marion High School. Afterward he served in the United States armed forces for seven years. He retired from Illini FS in 1989.
For over 60 years he was a country music lead guitar player, which he greatly enjoyed. His music was loved by many. He also enjoyed wood working, playing cards and dancing, and never lost his wonderful sense of humor. He is already missed greatly by his friends and family.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 25, at Owens Funeral Home in Champaign. Funeral services will immediately follow. He will be buried at Mount Olive Cemetery in Mayview.
